The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew

Wat Phra Kaew is also called The Temple of Emerald Buddha. The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew are adjoining in a big compound on Na Phra Lan Road near Phramane Grand, sorrounded by high white walls.
The Palace, built in 1788, consist of several buildings with highly decorated architecture. The King and Queen do not live in The Palace which is used for other things. The great Court is used for the Ministry of Finance. On the east side is Sala Sahathai Samakhom which is used for reception purpose. The Hall of Dusit is used as an audience hall, the Chakree Hall was by a British architecture is European style with Thai style foof. The top floor contains golden earns with ashes of the decreased King of the Chakree Dynasty. The second floor contains reception room which leads to private room for their Majesties to receive individual guests.
Wat Phra Kaew, the Royal Chapel, honeses the Emerald Buddha, the most sacred Buddha image in Thailand which is made of jespar, has three sets of costumes, one for the hot season. one for the raining season, one for the cool season, each costume is changed at the begining cool season by the King himself. Taking photographs inside the building housing the Emerald Buddha is not allowed.
The Grand Palace is open everyday and closed on official days, but on Saturday and Sunday only the exterior area is open to public. Proper dress required on all occation.
